New
to Hockey?
/ Returning Players
Joining NWAHA
Northwest Arkansas Hockey Association (NWAHA) has been sponsoring
ice hockey at the Jones Center since 1996. All kids from age 5 to
18 years-old, at all playing levels, participate on our teams. Our
teams play in-house games at the Jones Center as well as travel to
places like Little Rock, Tulsa, Kansas City, and St. Louis. Whatever
level of hockey you would like to play, NWAHA has a team for you.
Whether
you're new to hockey, or a returning player, the following information
will get you in the game.
New
to Hockey?
The following are the steps that you and your family will need to
go through to participate in ice hockey with NWAHA.
Step 1
- Skating Level: If you haven't skated before, either inline or
ice, you will need to contact The Arkansas Figure Skating Association
at SkateAFSA@live.com and
enroll in their Fall 2010 Hockey Classes. They'll help you progress
in your skating to a level where your hockey experience will be
an enjoyable one. Download their informational flier here,
then move onto Step 2.
Step
2
- Determining Age Level: Youth hockey teams are separated into age
group levels to ensure safety and an appropriate experience level
of play. Determine what age group that you or your child should
play in and contact the team manager for the appropriate age group.
The age groups are as follows:
- Mini-Mites
- Born in 2004 or later
- Mites
- Born in 2002 or 2003
- Squirts
- Born in 2000 or 2001
- PeeWees
- Born in 1998 or 1999
- Bantams
- Born in 1996 or 1997
- Midgets
- Born in years 1993 through 1995
When
you contact your team manager you will want to include information
of your past hockey or skating experience. You will also want to
make sure to mention whether or not you will be renting your hockey
equipment from NWAHA or providing your own. The team manager will
go over the procedures of registering with USA Hockey as well as
with NWAHA. Because registration through USA Hockey provides hockey
players with insurance that clubs must have for all of its player
and coach members you will need to complete this process before
you can get on the ice with any NWAHA team or for any NWAHA sanctioned
event. This includes camps or clinics that are sponsored by NWAHA.
Contact information for team managers is as follows:
Step
3
- Register to play: Registering to play is a two step process. First
you must register with USA
Hockey, at their online registration portal. Follow the link
provided and complete that process when you are ready to get started.
You will need your USA Hockey confirmation number to complete your
NWAHA registration. The second step is to complete your NWAHA registration.
Be sure to provide a birth certificate in your application to NWAHA
and bring the packet to your team manager.
